Apocalypse 9
"You puny weakling! I'm surprised you made it this far! Your kind usually buys it at the starting line. We are Apocalypse 9, and it will be our pleasure to blast you to bits and to begin to rid the world of your rotten species! See you on the rooftops! (Laughs)"
—Apocalypse 9 Leader

Apocalypse 9 was a collective group of characters who were cut from Twisted Metal (1995). They were replaced by Minion in the final game.

Twisted Metal (1995)[]

Apocalypse 9 was one of the toughest street gangs in Los Angeles, whose members stole the prototype XJ-39 "Mind Tank" from Jackson Industries one year before the events of the game. That same year, the gang's three leading members, youths believed to be in their early 20s and considered extremely dangerous, had escaped from prison. They pilot the Mind Tank to compete in the Twisted Metal contest. It is unknown what they would have wished for.

Clips[]

Only three clips of Apocalypse 9 exist. One seems to be an introductory scene with them introducing themselves with the bald leader putting on the mind-machine interface helmet for the Mind Tank before grabbing a control column. The second is a variation of the intro that briefly displays the Apocalypse 9 logo.

The third clip, in which the three leaders went on a rampage, could have possibly been an ending. It is possible that they would have wished for recognition and to be feared. Going by this assumption, the ending would make sense as they wish to be feared, and then celebrate by going on a victory rampage. Another possibility is that the cutscene represents the stolen Mind Tank accessing their deepest desires.

Trivia[]

  • John Doe's gang in Twisted Metal: Black may have been Apocalypse 9 as they were also a doomsday cult who had sought recognition and dominance. Note that the leader of the gang in TM (1995) was also bald.
