Outlaw is a recurring vehicle and one of the first vehicles introduced in the Twisted Metal series. It makes its first appearance in Twisted Metal (1995).

Outlaw makes appearances in all Twisted Metal games except Twisted Metal 4 (It can be created via Create Car however).

Outlaw has always been depicted as a law enforcement vehicle and its Special Weapon has always been omnidirectional.

Twisted Metal (1995)[]

"A sturdy, dependable car with a close range weapon that can be counted on to pull Sgt. Roberts out of the deadliest of battles."
—Twisted Metal - Outlaw's Bio

Outlaw makes its debut in Twisted Metal, the first game in the series.

When Fighting It: Try not to get too close to it. Its Tazer Weapon attacks from all directions.

Special Weapon

  • Tazer: Take charge and shock your opponents with your omni-directional tazer.

Twisted Metal 2[]

Outlaw returns in Twisted Metal 2, this time under the name of "Outlaw 2", driven by Sergeant Carl Roberts' sister.

Special Weapon

  • Omni Taser: A shocking Omni Taser that locks on to the closest vehicle and inflicts a moderate amount of damage before zapping the enemy into the air. A great weapon for drive-by attacks.

Twisted Metal III[]

"This dynamid duo packs some serious heat - their patrol car is armed with a roof-mounted Omni Taser that swirls around the car, zapping all punks that swerve into range."
—Twisted Metal III - Instruction Manual

Outlaw returns in Twisted Metal III, now with both siblings reunited.

Special Weapon

  • Omni Taser: This version of the Taser has shorter range, but is able to connect to multiple opponents instead of only one.

Twisted Metal: Black[]

"Outlaw is the standard issue armored van of the SWAT team."
—Twisted Metal: Black - Instruction Manual

Outlaw returns in Twisted Metal: Black with an entirely different design compared to previous entries.

Special Weapon

  • Mounted Gunner: Its Special Attack comes in two forms. Fire the Special Attack and Agent Stone will rise up from inside Outlaw as his custom-made, rapid-fire, rotating turret relentlessly fires at any nearby opponents. If Agent Stone can directly line up an opponent with his laser sight, rapidly pressing the Fire Weapon button [default: L2] will send an onslaught of missiles and bullets toward the target.

Twisted Metal: Small Brawl[]

"Equipped with the latest in law enforcement weaponry, Outlaw fires an electrocuting taser beam capable of latching onto nearby opponents. Once attached, rapidly pressing the Fire Weapon button [L2 button] will send jolts of punishing electricity while stealing some of your opponents health!"
—Twisted Metal: Small Brawl - Instruction Manual

Outlaw's appearance in Twisted Metal: Small Brawl.

Special Weapon

  • Omni Taser: This version of the special has a shorter range like Twisted Metal III and can only connect to one opponent like the original two games. However, it has the added ability to steal enemies' health by rapidly pressing the fire button, making it a incredibly good special weapon.

Twisted Metal: Head-On[]

Outlaw makes a return to Twisted Metal: Head-On, with both officer siblings Jamie and Carl "Buzz" Roberts working as a pair, similar to Twisted Metal III. Their plan is also similar, in which they both want to stop Calypso and Twisted Metal for good.

Special Weapons

  • Omni Taser: Shoots electricity from a radius. It follows a single enemy if he or she is inside the proximity.
  • Mega Taser: After receiving the Special Weapon upgrade, this special weapon gets an added bonus. By repeatedly pressing the fire button, the taser will become red and forcebly hold your opponents in place and damage them.

Twisted Metal: Lost[]

The Outlaw used in Twisted Metal: Lost. It's the same vehicle from Black.

Special Weapon

  • Mounted Gunner: Same as the special from Black.

Twisted Metal (2012)[]

Outlaw appears again. This time as a 4-door police SUV, abandoning the previous games' squad car and taking a similar look and feel from Black. It features a black and white paint-job, complete with red and blue lights and razor wire on the roof.

Special Weapons

  • Grenade Launcher (36 Pts): Outlaw's primary special is a 360 degree gun turret, keep tapping R2 (default) during the duration to fire grenades at your opponent to inflict additional damage.
  • Blood Missiles (70 Pts): The secondary special works in the same fashion except you can only have a 180 degree turning radius and you'll fire devastating "Blood Missiles" instead of grenades.

Twisted Metal TV Series[]

Cruiser[]

One of the police vehicles that appear in the Twisted Metal television series, with a design similar to Outlaw’s classic appearance in the earlier games. Its driver in the series is Agent Stone, a cop leading a deadly and antagonistic group of police officers who are trying to bring the law back to the post-apocalyptic world the series takes place in.

SUV[]

One of the police vehicles that appear in the Twisted Metal television series. Its design is based on its appearance in Twisted Metal (2012), with some brown accents added near the windshield and the top. The SUV has machine guns on its sides and a turret on the roof. It is also driven by Agent Stone.

Unused Entries[]

Twisted Metal: Harbor City[]

Outlaw was planned to make a return in Twisted Metal: Harbor City with a design similar to its classic appearances, rather than the SUV from Black. However, the game was cancelled and this incarnation of the vehicle never got used.

Special Weapon

  • Omni Taser: A taser that locks on the closest enemy and deals damage over time.

Trivia[]

General[]

  • Outlaw may get its name from an ironic fact: despite each of Outlaw's drivers working for the greater good, they still participate in the Twisted Metal Tournament, which results in the deaths of several innocents.
  • Every driver of Outlaw in the series to date has been "betrayed" by Calypso.
  • With the exception of Twisted Metal: Black, each of Outlaw's drivers shared the same motive of ending the Twisted Metal tournament once and for all.
  • Outlaw was scheduled to be in Twisted Metal: Harbor City, the cancelled sequel to Twisted Metal: Black. Its design was closer to its original appearances throughout the series, and seems to be taken from an early concept art for Outlaw from Black. Its special weapon was its classic taser.
    • Black's Outlaw was also in earlier versions of Harbor City, likely as a placeholder.

Twisted Metal (1995)[]

  • Outlaw's license plate in the original Twisted Metal (DOWNTS) means "Donuts".
  • Outlaw's Special Weapon is incorrectly spelled as "Tazer" instead of "Taser".

Twisted Metal 2[]

  • Outlaw 2's license place in Twisted Metal 2 (202LYF) means "20 To Life".
  • In Jamie Robert's ending, Carl Roberts' Outlaw is seen seriously damaged, and it flies into outer space after Carl gets on Jamie's Outlaw 2. It's unknown how Carl survived being in space for a year without food and air. The characters also seem to be able to talk to each other without using spacesuits. One could argue that Calypso could have kept him alive in space to serve out his "wish, however."

Twisted Metal 4[]

  • Even though Outlaw doesn't appear in Twisted Metal 4, Quatro is the stand-in only in each driver of Outlaw's motives, as Meter Maid acquires the taser weapon for its meter reader cart.

Twisted Metal: Black[]

  • In Black, it is unknown who drives Outlaw while the special weapon is being used, since Agent Stone himself is operating the turret, leaving the driver seat to do so. This also applies to Raven, whose alternate special move consists of her using a turret of her own. One theory is that they activate Auto-Pilot. Agent Stone may also have vehicle control interface attached on the turret for easy control.
  • Outlaw's car design in Black was originally going to be used on Warthog as seen on Sweet Tour.
    • The vehicle Warthog uses in the final game used to be another one called White Knight instead.

Twisted Metal: Small Brawl[]

  • According to Dave Goodrich, Outlaw's special was originally able to maintain its electrical connection to a targeted opponent no matter the distance, but this presented a potentially unfair advantage, even against Piecemeal. So, the special's range was lowered so that players would have to stay close by to their target in order to keep the connection going.

Twisted Metal (2012)[]

  • In Twisted Metal (2012), a badge reading "Summit" can be seen on the hood and rear tailgate of the vehicle. This is presumably the name of the manufacturer of the vehicle itself.
